“Clarity is not everything, but it changes everything.â€
This is the quote I hear over and over from my friend and mentor, David Putman, as he runs a visioning process. Over the years I have found this to be true. One of the most important things you can do in your church plant is create a clear and focused purpose and plan. This is the heart of mission and vision development. While this work is not easy, when you fight for simplicity and clarity in your focus as a church you will find it has enormous benefits down the road. With clarity, you will create a compelling mission and vision that will allow people to easily opt-in and out of your church. You will find with clarity you will have a radical focus that will allow you to do more with less. With clarity, you will answer 90% of the critical questions of planting before they are even asked.
Clarity is not everything but it changes everything. As you walk through this competency realize that we will not be giving you a mission and vision, but rather we will be giving you a tool kit you can use to reveal the mission and vision God has for the church He is calling you to plant. Realize this process will take time. Focus on gaining the tools you need, and then be willing to fight through the process so you can come out on the other side with a clear and focused purpose for the church plant.
