Reading Your Community & Making Connections

Reading your community is one of the most important skills in a church planters tool box.  The more you learn to read your community the more you will be able to identify the needs of the community in which God has planted you.  In this session we will talk about how you begin to read your community.  We will talk about finding the lost in your community and learning some key questions that will help you reach out.  In this session we will also talk about basic principles to help you connect with the disconnected in your community.

Resources

Here are some resources to help you dive into evangelism that connects with your community.  Some these resources are also great for core team training.

  • Walk Across the Room - Bill Hybels

What if you knew that by simply crossing the room and saying hello to someone, you could change that person’s forever? Just a few steps to make an eternal difference. It has nothing to do with methods and everything to do with taking a genuine interest in another human being. All you need is a heart that’s in tune with the Holy Spirit and a willingness to venture out of your “Circle of Comfort” and into another person’s life. Just Walk Across the Room brings personal evangelism into the twenty-first century.

  • Joining Jesus - Greg Finke

Joining Jesus on His Mission will alter the way you see your life as a follower of Jesus and take you beyond living your life for Jesus to living life with Jesus. Simple, powerful and applicable insights show you how to be on mission and recognize where Jesus is already at work in your neighborhoods, workplaces and schools. You will feel both relief and hope. You may even hear yourself say, “I can do this!” as you start responding to the everyday opportunities Jesus is placing in your path.

  • Deep & Wide - Andy Stanle

With surprising candor and transparency pastor Andy Stanley explains how one of America’s largest churches began with a high-profile divorce and a church split. But that’s just the beginning… Deep and Wide provides church leaders with an in-depth look into North Point Community Church and its strategy for creating churches unchurched people absolutely love to attend.

For the first time, Andy explains his strategy for preaching and programming to “dual audiences”: mature believers and cynical unbelievers. He argues that preaching to dual audiences doesn’t require communicators to “dumb down” the content. According to Stanley, it’s all in the approach.
